Respected colleagues and friends,
Pancevo’s Seventh Coloproctological Workshop will be held this year on October 18th, and the regular meeting of the Surgical Department of the Serbian Medical Society will be held the following day, October 19th.
Our esteemed guests, well known to Serbian surgeons from our previous meetings, have yet once again readily accepted our invitation to share their wealth of knowledge and experience with us. Following the basic concept of improving practical surgical skills and knowledge through live surgery and lectures as much as possible, two connected meetings brings even greater opportunities to do so.
Laparoscopic colorectal surgery remains the central topic. During previous couple of years in Serbia at certain surgical departments it has gradually become a standard method, progressively replacing open surgery. Still, in most of our hospitals besides adequate equipment, surgeons lack proper training. The insufficient number of experienced instructors bespeaks the urgent need for systematic solution for training in this type of surgery, and our guests are world-renowned authorities in the subject matter.
The results of our prior cooperation with Professors Amjad Parvaiz, Richard Cohen and Alexey Karachun will be presented, whereas the emphasis will be placed on the possibility to expand such cooperation. We will try to take an unbiased look at all contemporary modalities of treating colorectal carcinoma so we could compare our expertise with the rest of the world.
Our road is more difficult than in most other countries in Europe, but that only means that we have to be more persistent and to persevere. There is no alternative. Thus, we shall all come to Pancevo on October 18th and 19th, since we want to and we can have contemporary surgery in Serbia.
