Prof. dr Nuno Filipe Leitão Figueiredo, Champalimaud fondacija, Lisabon
Professor FIgueiredo is specialist general surgeon, with special interest in minimal-invasive laparoscopic and robotic colorectal surgery, primarily of carcinoma, as well as treating IBD. He has also given scientific contribution to the field of research of tumour response to neoadjuvant treatment, as well as modulation of immune response in severe sepsis.
He graduated in 2001. from University of Lisbon, and from 2004. he worked at Second surgical clinic in Lisbon. In 2011. he became consultant at his institute, while successfully promoting his PhD thesis in June 2013. with topic ”Severe Sepsis – Protective Role of Epirubicin”. He was promoted to professorship in 2013. In January 2012, professor Figueiredo was invited by ‘Champalimaud Clinical center’ in Lisbon, to join prestigious expert team from multiple countries of Europe, where he is actively pursuing in developing and practicing of the most modern procedures and techniques in tretment of rectal carcinoma, primarily by laparoscopica and robotic surgery.
With goal of advancing in minimal-invasive surgery, professor received training in advanced laparoscopic and robotic surgery between January 2014. and May 2015, under instructor professor Amjad Parvaiz, at university clinic in Portsmouth. Concluding training process, in May 2015. he was awarded with certificate to perform solo laparoscopic colorectal surgery, under standards proposed by National school of United Kingdom. He completed his learning process in April 2017, with certificate of European Agency for Robotic Colorectal Surgery (EARCS), a distinction of the highest order in training at this type of surgery. Professor Figueiredo in his practice uses laparoscopic technique, as well as the most modern robotic platform, DaVinci Xi.
